Can I have my wedding ceremony and reception at the same place?

Not only is this allowed, but also highly recommended!  All of our sites have beautiful areas perfect for a ceremony, with reception facilities only a few feet away.  Having to pay for one facility to do the job of two saves you money in the long run, and saves your guests the hassle of driving from one place to another.

How can I check if my date is available?

The best way is to contact us by phone or email with your date or a general time frame in which you'd like to reserve the park site.  Historic Properties only allows reservations up to one year in advance of the date you request, on the first day of the month you request; so, for example, if you wanted to reserve Alms Park Pavilion on June 16 2005, the first time you could request that date would be on June 1 2004.  Saturday evenings are by far the most popular time to reserve a park site, although many of our sites allow Friday and Sunday evening or even Saturday morning rentals. Our suggestion is to contact us as early as possible, and to have several dates in mind when checking on availability.  Please keep in mind that due to previous park obligations, some dates will not be available for private rental.

How do I reserve a park site?

Once you decide that you're ready to reserve a park site, you can either do so by contacting us directly, or through our web site.  When contacting us directly, please have in mind the park location and the desired date.  If the date you want is available, we'll ask you for your general contact information, as well as some basic information about the kind of event you'd like to have (wedding ceremony, wedding reception, birthday party, etc.)  Once we have this information, we will mail you a permit application containing your payment schedule and a list of policies and regulations.  Both of these documents should be signed and mailed back to Historic Properties within 15 days, together with a non-refundable deposit of $500 (this deposit amount may change if you are renting a lodge in Mt. Airy).  The second payment, which is the remainder of the rental fee, is due one month later.

To reserve a park property through the web site, simply click on the "Request this Park" button on the park information page.  Follow the instructions given to you on that page, and once you submit the request, Historic Properties will contact you to let you know if the date is available; if it is, we'll mail you a contract, and the rest of the procedure is as above.

Please note that Historic Properties rents park sites no sooner than one year in advance, beginning on the first day of the month requested. For example, if you wanted to request any date in June 2005, the earliest you could request a reservation would be June 1, 2004.  Our phone system begins taking messages on midnight of the first day of each month, and reservation requests are handled in the order we receive them.

What if I need to cancel my event at Alms Pavilion, Ault Pavilion, Mt. Echo Pavilion, the Krohn Conservatory, the Theodore M. Berry International Friendship Park or the French House?

The initial deposit of $500 is non-refundable.  The second payment is partially refundable, if you contact us earlier than three months before the date of your event.  If you let us know between three and six months before your event, 50% of the second payment is refunded.  If you let us know earlier than six months, the full second payment is refunded.

Are the park sites handicapped-accessible?

All of our park sites are for the most part wheelchair-friendly, and have accessible bathrooms.  Please keep in mind, however, that both Ault and Alms Park Pavilions have upper levels that can only be reached by stairs.

What if it rains?

Every bride-to-be envisions a bright, sunny, beautiful wedding day, but unfortunately nature doesn't always cooperate.  Historic Properties offers a wide selection of tenting and canopies, as well as custom made awnings designed exclusively for some of our pavilions to provide an elegant yet watertight solution to the sudden rainshower.  All coverings come with sidewalls that can be lowered to keep your guests dry and warm, and raised again to allow your guests to view the scenery of the park, all within a matter of minutes.  Also, our staff will work with you prior to your event to develop both a sun and rain plan to implement on the day of your event.

What do I do about catering, tables and chair rentals, etc. ?

For all your catering needs, we supply a list of exclusive caterers approved to prepare and  serve food at all of our sites.  These caterers offer a wide selection in cuisine and price, and all are more than happy to work with our clients for special needs to suit your individual tastes.  For a listing of these caterers, please click here.  For all of our sites except for Maple Ridge Lodge and Oak Ridge Lodge, you must use one of the approved caterers to provide your food and beverages.  At the above lodges, you have the option of providing your own food, or having a third party provide it if there is no cost to you.  If you have any question about whether or not you fall under these requirements, please contact Historic Properties.

Tables and chairs are included in the price of Maple Ridge Lodge and Oak Ridge Lodge.  For all other sites, rentals of tables, chairs, and tenting must be done through Historic Properties, at an additional cost. Our experienced staff will work with you to help you decide what your event needs.
